BBH University, BÖWE BELL + HOWELL's award-winning training and development organization, today announced a limited-time, 25 percent discount on its "Leading Mail Center Operations" program. Enrollment must be complete by Jan. 15, 2010, to qualify for the discount.
Leading Mail Center Operations helps mailers develop the leadership skills needed to effectively manage people, processes and systems in today's production mail environment. The course is ideal for managers responsible for the efficiency and productivity of their mail center. Alumni of this program have seen operational efficiency increase by 10 percent or greater after implementing the ideas and strategies presented.
"Because our trainers have decades of professional experience managing production mail centers, we have first-hand knowledge of the challenges that managers face," said Lana Chandra, BBH's executive director of BBH University and Organizational Development. "We bring our insight and practical expertise to the classroom, and I believe this personal knowledge of how best to run a production line is a unique and valuable feature of our courses. We're not just talking theory, but the practical application of industry best practices."
The course was developed after a number of years of onsite customer efficiency assessments. "We compiled all of the learnings and best practices that our consultants have engaged in and created a curriculum that distills this knowledge into easy-to-understand, hands-on training," said Chandra. "We're now seeing mailers faced with an increasing need for cost controls. This course helps managers learn how to weed out inefficiencies, coach and develop employees in using metrics to drive performance, and implement quality management best practices."
The program includes an introduction of the concepts of Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma; employee coaching, motivation and engagement; production mail metrics, aligning metrics with business strategy, and using metrics to drive performance; and mail center layout, ergonomics and safety.
"What's unique about our programs is that we incorporate institutional best practices, including applicable concepts of Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma, and apply them specifically to mail center operations," added Chandra. "This sets us apart from other vendors who may not take into consideration how quality improvements found in manufacturing environments can apply to the mail center."

Cogent Technologies (formerly Research Inc.), an industry leader in the design, development and manufacture of electric infrared heating components and integrated heating systems, introduces the newly improved Model 5060 Speed-Dri ink drying system. The Model 5060 Speed-Dri provides instantaneous infrared and convection technologies to dry ink printed on target areas up to four inches (102 mm) wide.
The Model 5060 Speed Dri makes it simple to add extra capability enabling increased line speeds. Designed for easy installation, low operation cost, and minimal maintenance, the system is an economical solution for improving throughput resulting in increased profitability.
An array of fast responding, medium wave quartz lamps provide infrared heat directly to the printed ink resulting in the breaking down of the boundary layer and immediate evaporation of the ink solvent. An integrated fan blows past the lighted lamps resulting in heated air impingement on the target product surface. Line speeds of up to 350' (107 m) per minute can be achieved using the Model 5060 Speed-Dri.
The compact Model 5060 Speed-Dri is easily mounted to most transports and measures 15" (381 mm) long, 11.81" (300 mm) high, 4.2" (107 mm) wide. Individual units can be mounted end-to-end to increase effective dryer length to 30" long (762 mm).
Two units can be mounted side-by-side to increase effective drying width to eight inches (203 mm). Adjustable or automatic heat is available using the Tachometer Input Circuitry. The optional Tachometer Kit is ordered separately.
The Speed-Dri is now available worldwide through Cogent Technologies extensive distribution network. Sales inquiries should be directed to Josh Nelson, Cogent Technologies., 7041 Boone Ave., Brooklyn Park, MN 55428. Phone: 763-795-8856.
Cogent's products are designed to solve a wide variety of drying problems. Encompassing a broad spectrum of drying applications, our customers range from large, multi-divisional corporations to small proprietorships.
