LONGMONT, Colo., April 25, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Parascript, LLC, the image analysis and pattern recognition technology provider, today announced that United Business Mail (UBM), a presort mail services company providing mailing solutions in Minnesota, Arizona, and most recently California, has implemented Parascript's AddressScript as the only optical character recognition (OCR) technology to process its handwritten mail.

"Implementing Parascript's technology was an easy decision for United Business Mail. Our primary objectives are saving customers postage dollars, improving the deliverability of mail, and seeing a quick return on our investment in technology. Parascript's OCR allows us to read and automate handwritten mail pieces to achieve all of those," said Bill Boyce, vice president of sales for UBM. "We are so impressed with the performance that we are considering using the technology to process machine print mail on rejects as well."

"We have invested in Parascript's technology in our Minneapolis facility for nearly 10 years, and in our Phoenix facility for over five. It only made sense that when we opened our Los Angeles facility that we would implement the same technology for letters and flats," continued Andy Phillips, vice president of operations for UBM. "Parascript allows us to utilize our existing investments in equipment and enhance them to bring more value to our customers and company."

United Business Mail has achieved significant gains on finalizing handwritten addresses at their centers in Minnesota and Arizona with Parascript's OCR technology on their BOWE BELL + HOWELL PTI High-Speed Multi-Line Optical Character Reader (MLOCR). Thanks to the solution, UBM is able to obtain automation rate discounts and improve deliverability of the mail by applying a barcode before entering the mail into the USPS plant for continued processing. Additionally, Parascript's click, with pay-as-you-go, model significantly reduced the cost of the initial investment.

Parascript's AddressScript software automatically reads addresses with the highest read rates achievable, greatly reducing time, costs and labor commonly associated with mail processing. It locates and captures address block information on envelope, mailing label, or flat images to efficiently process the entire mail stream. It reads any character type - cursive, handprint, and machine print - in any combination to provide a universal address recognition and validation solution.

"We are pleased to see United Business Mail expand to Los Angeles and anticipate that Parascript's best-of-breed software and technology will help them to maintain an edge in this very competitive area," said Kaz Jaszczak, director of product planning and operations for Parascript. "We are also delighted that BOWE BELL + HOWELL has expanded on the option to switch on Parascript's machine print recognition for rejects on their PureVISION PTI MLOCR solution, where previously only handwriting recognition from Parascript was available."

United Business Mail will be exhibiting at National Postal Forum, May 1-5, 2011 in San Diego, CA at booth # 1737, and BOWE BELL + HOWELL at booth #1426.
