Karen Cornelius was installed as the first female president of Mail Systems Management Association (MSMA) effective January 1, 2011 after beginning as a Regional Director in 2000.
She is employed as the Regional Director of Operations for Pitney Bowes Management Services (PBMS), managing the West Region of the United States from Phoenix Arizona. PBMS manages Corporate Mail Centers, in her position; she is dedicated to the Bank of America account.
Karen (KC) has been in the Mailing industry for 32 years. Beginning as a clerk with the Postal Service, she then progressed to letter carrier. She moved up through the ranks for 14 years into the position of Officer-In-Charge or "Acting Postmaster" for several cities before leaving for the private sector. For 10 years she managed either a Mail Center or a division of the Mail Center in the world of higher education at Westmont College and Pepperdine University. Karen worked for UPS Mail Innovations as a Regional Director before accepting her current position with Pitney Bowes.
One of her greatest achievement has been receiving her credential; the Certified Mail and Distribution System Manager (CMDSM) in 2002, stating "this is the PhD of my career".
Joining the MSMA National team in 2003 and committing myself to this organization has become as important as any business position could be. This industry is at a pivotal point, it is exciting to be part of a team that will lead us into the new Digital Age of Technology. WE all need to immerse ourselves in every opportunity to learn about what is new and how people are communicating. WE are in the communication business now. So how does MAIL translate digitally, that is our new challenge, let's get with it! What you knew yesterday is not good enough for today or tomorrow. Learn to earn that is good business today!!
Karen is a regular speaker at MAILCOM and MSMA meetings around the country. She has also spoken at the Document Strategies Forum (DSF) and various Postal Customer Council. Karen is a member of Toastmaster International and the National Association of Female Executives. She was awarded MSMA's Distinguish Service Award for 2010, as well as holds a Green Belt in Six Sigma.
At one point, Karen had a small marketing business on the Central coast called Dynamic Marketing Systems. She has always been interested in how to communicate with people in new and exciting ways.
Karen and her beloved dog Sonny, live in Sun City West, Arizona. You'll hear her speak of her mom, daughter and granddaughter as those who are most precious to her. And as you can imagine, she is a golfer, who enjoys many of the activities the beautiful weather that Arizona affords.
