DHL's new flights to New York's JFK Airport consist of two daily direct flights from DHL's Central Asia Hub in Hong Kong, and one direct flight each from DHL's hubs in Bangkok, Thailand; Singapore; and Taipei, Taiwan.
In 2004, the Asia Pacific-U.S. trade lane accounted for US$533 billion in exports to the U.S.1 The new direct DHL flights to New York significantly increase cargo capacity on air routes from Asia Pacific to the U.S. East coast to meet customer demand, and underscore DHL's ongoing commitment to providing the most extensive international air express network for customers throughout Asia Pacific and the U.S. With the addition of these new flights, DHL customers will also benefit from enhanced next day express services to the U.S. using DHL International Document Service and DHL Worldwide Priority Express; later cut-off times, and earlier delivery times for shipments originating in Asia Pacific and destined for the greater New York/New Jersey area.
"DHL's unmatched global transportation network, and our undisputed market leadership in Asia Pacific, enables us to adapt our services to meet the needs of our U.S. customers," said Fred Beljaars, Executive Vice President of Operations for DHL Express in the United States. "These five new direct trans-Pacific flights to New York further strengthen our ability to serve U.S. customers importing goods from Asia Pacific, such as those in the highly competitive fashion and apparel industries in New York City. That flexibility is key as we work to offer DHL customers a superior customer experience every day," continued Beljaars.
DHL is the market leader in Asia Pacific with a 40% share of the international express delivery market among global integrators. The company, which has been operating in Asia Pacific since 1971, has invested over US$1.6 billion in the region since 2000, as part of a wider initiative to reinforce its market leadership as an integrated 'one-stop' supply chain solutions provider throughout Asia Pacific. Over US$900 million in investments have been directed towards DHL's Greater China operations alone, including: US$400 million into Air Hong Kong, DHL's joint venture with Cathay Pacific; and US$210 million in DHL's Central Asia SuperHub at Hong Kong International Airport, which will double the hub's capacity by 2007.
DHL's dedicated air network in Asia Pacific is currently served by over 20 aircraft in dedicated air operations, covering 27 destinations in 16 countries and territories. DHL also utilizes over 800 Asia Pacific regional and international commercial flights per day, including dedicated, daily flights from Asia Pacific for shipments into DHL's International Gateways located at Los Angeles International Airport and at DHL's main U.S. air and ground hub in Wilmington, Ohio. DHL's global transportation network serves customers with daily service to 120,000 destinations in 220 countries and territories worldwide.
