A while ago, the staff who serve House Government Reform & Oversight Committee Chairman Darrell Issa (R-CA) had told PostCom that there was no way the chairman or the House as a whole would support a proposal to credit Postal Service CSRS accounts. According to Mr. Issa's staffers, the chairman was of the opinion that there has been no overfunding of the USPS' civil service retirement funding obligation.
If the chairman has been anything, he's been consistent, and it would appear that his message to all concerned has finally propagated through the fuller reaches of the business mailing community. Again, he has clearly stated (largely through others) that there will be no forgiveness of the USPS' obligations to pay another five billion dollars to cover its retiree health benefits obligations or to make good on what the Office of Personnel Management says is owed to the Federal Employee Retirement System (FERS).
