Industry sources are reporting that this week DHL Express USA dismissed a significant portion of its sales force. This move included the Commercial Field Sales Group and the National Account Sales Group. The remaining salespeople will apparently be devoted to maintaining and attracting International Express business which has been DHL's core competency since its inception in 1969. Thus the competitive landscape continues to change. As DHL scales back its domestic operations, shippers are faced with uncertainty as to DHL's commitment to domestic transactions in 2009. This will undoubtedly be a hot topic of discussion at the Parcel Forum in Chicago next week. For PARCEL Forum information visit, www.parcelforum.com.
