August 10, 2017, Toronto, ON – Crawford Technologies, provider of innovative document solutions that streamline, improve and manage customer communications, will be participating in variety of ways at the Blinded Veterans Association (BVA) National Convention held on August 14-18 in Jacksonville, FL. The Blinded Veterans Association was established specifically to help veterans and their families meet and overcome the challenges of blindness and vision impairment. Crawford Technologies is looking forward to being an active supporter of this important convention where it plans to demonstrate a smartphone app with accessibility settings, present a workshop to train veterans on using the app and act as an “angel sponsor” for a blinded veteran wishing to attend.
In Crawford Technologies’ booth #103, the latest release of the company’s app, Voiceye, will be showcased. Voiceye is an affordable and easy way to make print documents accessible by inserting a special barcode that can be scanned by a free smart phone app. When the code is scanned, the information is automatically converted to large text, displayed in high contrast, transformed to an audio file using the accessibility settings on the smart phone, and can drive a braille keyboard. The BVA now incorporates Voiceye in all its newsletters and communications to membership. This app can be downloaded for free from Play Store (Android) or App Store (iOS) by searching "VOICEYE".
Additionally, Dennis Quon, document accessibility solutions development manager for Crawford Technologies, will lead an educational workshop for veterans on August 14 at 1:00 p.m. on the functionality of the Voiceye app and how it can easily be used in everyday life to make paper documents accessible. This interactive session will review how barcodes are generated in MS Word, how a smart phone can be used to scan the barcode and what features are available in this unique app.
“Crawford Technologies is proud to provide the broadest range of document accessibility services and solutions in the industry—supporting everything from MS Word based documents, to Auto Tagger for Accessibility for marketing materials and other static documents, to support for Accessible PDF, Accessible HTML5 and alternate formats such as braille, large text and audio, to a selection of powerful solutions for transactional documents,” said Ernie Crawford, president and CEO of Crawford Technologies. “Our active involvement in the BVA is part of our company’s commitment to stay on top of the latest trends, standards and direction of organizations that advocate for people with disabilities.”
